Mission and Values

We the Citizens Representative Assembly aim to give you the citizens the power and the knowledge to make clear and conscientious national decisions through creating and advocating for a new combined electoral system called Citizens Transferable Vote. By combining Citizens Assemblies with Proportional Representation we aim to put national decision making back into your hands so that you feel truly represented in your community at a national level. Rather than being governed by politicians using First Past the Post who represent the vested interests of big business and the financial sector. We aim to replace Parliament with a permanent National Citizens Assembly, consisting of independent. well informed and actively engaged citizens.

We will do this through

Giving you the citizens venues  to assemble in UK cities to gather, debate and decide in national Citizens Assemblies on national issues that effect your communities and by you  voting your elected officials in using the single transferable vote method of proportional representation at elections. While giving you the option to put yourself forward via sortition or random lottery at a community venue or online to independently represent your constituency. By including your voices, we will fix our broken democracy together to create a fairer , more stable UK that represents the voices of all citizens.

We aim to achieve are goals through informing and advocating for and about a new direct combined alternative to First Past the Post so that citizens have a new way of feeling included in a new transformative method of democracy and in fairly choosing their representatives. Through advocating for a new combined electoral system called Citizens Transferable Vote we aim for you to feel empowered to have your say and feel equally represented.

Values

Our values guide how we work to pursue our mission:

Radical Inclusivity

Creating a safe space where everyone can be heard, participate safely and openly without fear of judgement or ridicule and be valued equally also means being aware of barriers to engagement. We aim to consider barriers to engagement e.g. disabled access, sign language, interpretation and by providing creches. We aim to give all citizens the opportunity to put their name forward to be voted in by the process of lottery or random selection at local venues or online to take part in a national assembly.

Democracy

We aim for all citizens over the age of 16 to be able to put themselves forward to represent their communities in a national citizens assembly and for everyone to be treated fairly.

Trust

Once the process for a Citizens Representative Assembly has been decided upon by members, it is crucial that participants trust the process and trust the facilitators. The facilitators enable this trust by committing to the agreed process and ensuring that everyone follows along too. It's vital that citizens trust the new method of voting in their elected representatives and feel included in putting their name forward to represent their communities and constituencies.

Clear purpose

Once the responsibilities for The Citizens Representative Assembly are clearly defined, there aims to be a call for solutions to issues with regards to matters of national  importance.

 Skilled facilitation

Meetings of the assembly members will be conducted by facilitators whose role is to create an environment that is conductive of evoking the collective knowledge of the group, as well as friendly and active debate among the participants.
